In 2026, Zell am See once again impressively proved itself to be Austria’s undisputed Vespa capital. For the 17th time, the popular VESPA ALP DAYS transformed the region into a colourful, international meeting place for enthusiasts from all over the world, who spent ten days enjoying an unrivalled atmosphere amidst imposing mountain peaks, the idyllic Lake Zell and the historic town centres.
Around 1,000 participants from 20 different countries – ranging from North America and Australia to numerous European nations – travelled to the event to celebrate their shared passion for the iconic Italian brand. This year’s gathering took on a particularly festive air, as the legendary Vespa will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2026 and has been delighting generations of riders around the globe since its launch in 1946.

A particular highlight right at the start of the event was the traditional Großglockner Mountain Prize with its spectacular Le Mans-style start. A total of 150 participants competed on lovingly restored and well-maintained Vespa models built between 1946 and 1957. Amidst the enthusiastic applause of numerous spectators, the riders made their way to their historic scooters before setting off on the challenging climb up the Großglockner High Alpine Road. The combination of motorsport tradition, historical heritage and the alpine mountain backdrop once again made this part of the programme an extraordinary experience.
Throughout the remaining days of the ten-day event, visitors and participants were treated to a varied programme. Among the absolute highlights was the traditional group ride up the Großglockner High Alpine Road, whose impressive Alpine panorama created unforgettable moments for both riders and onlookers alike. The popular pyjama and fancy-dress ride-out also attracted a great deal of attention and created a lively atmosphere, with numerous creative and imaginative costumes transforming the streets of Zell am See into a rolling stage. In addition, a scenic tour into the Angertal valley took the convoy of riders through some of the region’s most picturesque natural landscapes.

One of the most heart-warming aspects of the event was the traditional ride in traditional costume around Lake Zell, followed by a blessing of the scooters, which impressively highlighted the successful blend of regional customs and international Vespa culture. As well as the joy of riding together, the focus was above all on socialising. The international community sent a strong message of solidarity: as part of a charity campaign, a total of 4,000 euros was raised and donated, which will now benefit regional children’s and youth projects.

Not even the occasionally changeable weather could dampen the excellent atmosphere. Even on rainy days, the participants remained enthusiastic and made the most of the extensive programme of events. In the evenings, live bands transformed the town square in Zell am See into an atmospheric meeting place for the global Vespa family.

The VESPA ALP DAYS have long since established themselves as one of Europe’s most significant Vespa gatherings and, at the same time, serve as a major driver of tourism for the entire Zell am See-Kaprun region. After ten eventful days, organisers and participants alike have given the event an overwhelmingly positive review. The anticipation for the 18th edition of the VESPA ALP DAYS next year is already palpable amongst everyone involved.
